19/08/2009 - Skinkers Goes Green
Extensive use of “Green” technology lowers Skinkers ecological foot-print
August 2009: Skinkers award wining technology was taken to new level of performance when its hosted data-centre, which provides push communication services for many leading organisations such as the BBC, American Airlines, Bank of America, Sky Broadcasting, Brewin Dolphin, CNN, UPS, Virgin Atlantic and SAS, was upgraded to utilise the latest virtualisation techniques.
This significant investing in the leading virtualisation technology was designed to continue to deliver high levels of customer service to Skinkers customers whilst dramatically reducing the all important environmental impact of running a large data-centre. The key benefits being:
· Server consolidation from many independent computers to a few
· Unified server management to ensure maximum efficiency and performance
· Reduced power consumption through less processors and better utilisation of those in use
· Reduced cooling need, resulting in lower use of air conditioning plant
· More rapid deployment of new systems to meet client needs
· More processors per rack resulting in less space demands in crowded city computer rooms.
“Our investment in the latest and most powerful virtualisation technology is consistent with our offering clients leading edge push communication solutions whilst genuinely demanding less of our planet. Everyone at Skinkers is focussed on recycling and conserving power, but our new data-centre really makes a significant new and positive contribution. Over the next few years, data-centre power and cooling demands will become a major issue and we’re pleased to be at the forefront of addressing the challenge.” said Rob Noble, COO, Skinkers.
